AI Uncertainty (AIU) Index

2016-2022 = 100

Notes:
  1. The AIU Index measures perceived uncertainty about the economic implications of AI. It is constructed using news articles that simultaneously reference AI, economic conditions, and uncertainty, sourced from leading US, UK, and European news outlets via Dow Jones Factiva. Baseline period: M1:2016–M12:2022 (mean = 100). Details are provided in Reyes, J. (2026). The Macroeconomic Effects of AI Uncertainty.
  2. A value of 0.0 indicates that no articles in that month satisfied all three keyword filters (AI, economy, and uncertainty) simultaneously. It does not indicate missing data.
  3. The Dow Jones Factiva news archive is periodically updated. The AIU Index is constructed from articles retrieved as of January 2026.
